Finally, after 50 hours, we are in St. Bartholemy at Aberge De La Petiti Anse. So what happened? We left Santa Cruz about 2:12 pm on Friday. We flew to L.A. to catch the red-eye to JFK. When we got there the fog was so thick, Chowchilla thick, the plane was diverted to Newark to refuel and sat for 3 hours. We then got back in the air, to circle around New York for awhile until they let us land. So we missed our connector flight to St. Martin. American Airlines tried to get us the next flight out on Jet Blue, but when we got there, after lugging our luggage across the airport to another terminal, we were 20 minutes too late. AA only had 1 person to handle about 30 people that missed their flights. So we ended up spending the night next to the Airport.

We then could not get a room at any nice Hotel, because they were all booked for St. Patrick’s Day. We ended up at the JFK motel, it looked like it had been remodeled in the late 1970s. Do not stay there with your wife, what a trouper, even though the proprietors were very nice. We both crashed after ordering Pizza. OK, but not as good as Elaine makes with the homemade dough and sauce I concoct.

We got up at 4:30 am, East coast time, to be at the airport ahead of time. Everything went pretty smooth. Let me tell you, use curb side check in, it is so much faster. The flight went well to St. Martin. It took another hour and a half to get on 15 seat plane to St. Barths. After a wild landing, that’s a great video of a landing on YouTube,  we waited for our luggage, that arrived another 45 minutes later on the next flight and drove the rent a car to our destination. As you can see above, we have a great view from our balcony right on the water at the end of the road. The waves are lapping in on the rocks down below as we drink wine a glass of wine. More tomorrow, after snorkeling at the cove above, and another about a 40 minute hike away. Tuesday we get on a sail boat to watch the Bucket races around the island for a week.

 

Oh yeah, we do have a House Sitter Dave.

The recent Sunspot storms are creating great shows. The big one hitting earth today may cause some electrical interference.

If your out looking at the night sky, three planets are showing up good after Sunset. Mars is very low in the East, and Jupitor and Venus appear close to each other.

 

America’s Cup in Naples in a Month

Will we see capsizes like this next month as the America’s Cup goes to Naples? The racers are expecting lighter winds. Therefore they are adding about 10 to 12 feet to the height of the mast, or wing, to make up for lighter conditions. The multihulls are making the races much more fun to watch. Crashes like Nascar. Hopefully not the injuries.  The races have been on ESPN.

Well I think I am going to stay with WordPress. I started out using iWeb in 2009. It gave me a good looking site, but I wanted more. In 2010 I learned to use Rapidweaver, and used it to build my website, some for family and some for business’s.  I also took online courses for HTML and CSS. I even took a Dreamweaver course.

 

I still have alot to learn about WordPress. The biggest advantage is setting up other people’s sites so they can update them. I like the simplicity and layout. It has a great support group, and online help. New side products are constantly being added for it.

 

I am still doing major tweaks to my site, and have many pages to add.

OctopusI have not had time to add pages telling about and showing photos of the trips I have done. So, here is a sample. I photographed this octopus at the Indians in the British Virgin Islands a few years ago. It was our fifth sailing trip, our fourth to the BVI’s. The BVI’s are simple place to bareboat. It is like KOA camping on some islands, and the other islands are like dry camping with no facilities, except the boat. The navigation is line of sight. Most islands are in sight of each other, except for Anegada, which is barely above sea level. We had spent the night at the Bight in Norman Island, a very cool place to stay. The first time we ever anchored in the Bight, there was nothing on the island but goats, though there was a boat bar, the Willie T. Now there is a restaurant bar, Pirates Bight, on the beach. We have bareboated several times, about ten, in different spots around the Caribbean.

 

I was snorkeling around the submerged reefs when I came up on him (actually I don’t know the sex). The fish life was great that day. I also saw an Eagle Ray, in about 30 feet of water. It took off immediately to deeper water.

Importing Old Post

Well the first trick I tried was to import old blog post from iWeb, a Mac program to create a Website. It did not completely work. It imported a limited number of post, and with no pictures. Oh well, I can update them or not.

New Site using WordPress

I’ve destroyed the old web site. It’s time to update. I have started using WordPress. It is a easier way to update your website, without any special programs. I can easily enter and change anything from any computer. I just need to log on to my website. Well here we go.

Well I have been busy creating Elaine’s new Web Site. It has turned out pretty good, and has some very cool features. Check it out at Elaine The Realtor. I had to do something since I have been retired for the last 3 months, but back to work in a couple of weeks.
I will be creating a new website for Captain Kana. It will be looking quite a bit different and have a lot of Web 2.0 features. IWEB served the purpose of getting me up and going. I have been brushing up on my HTML, CSS, etc. skills and it should help make an interesting new site. Stay tuned for the changes.

Costa Rica Overview

Costa Rica was simply a blast. The parts of the country we saw are beautiful. The people are very friendly, and very helpful.
We had only one reservations for any hotel we stayed at in Costa Rica. There are plenty of places to stay in all areas. The only place we could not stay at was Arenal Observatory which is about as close as you can get to the volcano.
If you are looking to do a trip, email me and I will give you some ideas. With the Web as it is now, research is quite easy and up to date. If you are traveling around Costa Rica, the single best guide is this Costa Rica Map. It has everything in it to plan a trip. Their web site is very thorough and the map has hotels, restaurants, activities, parks, and detail inserts of key areas. You could easily use only this map. I also used Trip Advisor which was great for itinerary planning , general information, and great local advisors monitoring the site. I also used 4 other books, which I will list in order of usefulness:

 • Fodor’s Costa Rica 2010
 • Rough Guide to Costa Rica
 • The New Key to Costa Rica
 We will be returning soon to explore some new areas, and revisiting favorite spots.
